Water Changes

Post by weidjd »

I wanted to know when doing a water change do you age the water? Or do you just use it straight from the tap? I have dealt with SW and part of mixing the salt with RO takes much time. With FW do you add a water treatment chemical each time you do a change?

I add mine straight from the tap and add prime to the water as I am filling the tank.

I mix it in a bucket with a powerhead and a heater, at least a few hours, or over night.
*saltwater that is.

for FW,...I add Prime directly to the tank before refilling with fresh water

if you do not want to use water treatments then you can 'age' the water for 24-48 hrs

I age mine... Unless I'm doing multiple water changes in one day.. then it's into my mixing tub for a few mins with Prime, then into the tank. I like to raise the PH of my water before adding it to my tanks. All of my tanks have the PH 8+, but the tap only comes out around 6.5-7.

I do age all of my water for partials, whether fresh, brackish, or marine. In certain emergencies I have used water fresh from the tap (with Prime addition), but that is quite rare.
