I-Pod Suggestions

Post by Pufferpunk »

Hubby promised me an I-Pod for Xmas. Any suggestions?

The choice for me is between portability or not, if you are looking for a home sound unit the go for the largest capacity iPod and check compatibility with speaker systems, if portable then size and battery life would be my main concerns.

you can go with a 3rd party MP3 player that is in that price range, but it won't be an "I-Pod".

I had an older RIO that was strapped to an arm band that I used for jogging / cycling a long time ago. I am sure there are similar products out that that can contain at least 6 hours of music.

I had a nano until I got my iPhone...loved it and never came anywhere near filling it up!
It won't work on a treadmill but if you walk or run, check out Nike +...it's awesome!

I generally work out on the machines. Why won't it work on a treadmill & I'm assuming the elliptical too? So you think the 8GB is big enough?

I just remember reading that it was completely inaccurate on a treadmill, something about the gait being different. An elliptical would probably be even worse.
Unless you are planning to use it for movies or shows, or many many podcasts, IMHO 8g will be plenty...

That's what I was thinking. Is there a place to download tunes for free? I need punk rock!

I was using limewire but they were shut down. I've been told frostwire and vuze are good but haven't tried them yet...

http://www.video2mp3.net/
go to the link and open another tab or window. go to youtube and copy the hyperlink to a song/video you want and paste it into the converter bar. click convert and i believe it asks you to save it somewhere. make a folder you want to save them to and start adding. once you are done and you want to add to your ipod/mp3 player select the files either one at a time or hitting ctrl and clicking individual ones. or you can click the first one, hit shift and click the last one highlighting all files. then drag them to the desired location.

if you have a problem dragging them you might have to right click each individual file and select "open with - itunes" in order to get it to your itunes. after that you will be able to drag them to your ipod.

frostwire is a decent alternative, just have to make sure you only select files with a lot of hosts sharing it. if you type in an artist and see a song you want, search by that song name and download the highest used file. thats what i do and have done for many years off and on with limewire and have never had a virus. i virus scan my computer once im done downloading songs just to be safe

as far as a suggestion on an mp3 player, i would go ipod touch. you will not find yourself using it only for working out as you might think right now. if you have wireless at your house, theres a TON of things you can do with it. obviously you dont need the one with a camera(who knows you actually might) so you can go with an older one which would be cheaper, or you can craigslist it. i know someone at a pawn shop so i get killer deals on ipods if i want so its a shame you dont live closer. last christmas i got my roommate a brand new 3rd generation, not even opened for $110. its literally the best thing i have ever gotten for christmas 3 years ago. if you travel at all, you can download and throw a movie on it or copy a disc to your computer and put it on. you have a calculator, contact storage, music, movies, pictures, internet browser(if in wifi zone), calendar. haha i sound like a salesperson sorry but im really sold on ipod touches. i recommend them to everyone and you will get your usage out of it for the price. and as long as you take care of it you get years of usage out of it. ive had mine for 3 years i think, maybe even 4?? ive dropped it a few times and its still going strong. and if you do get one, you can do whats called jailbreaking and you can get free songs, movies, apps which i get music and movies for free anyway but the apps are nice to get and get rid of at your liking. so apple vs other mp3, apple all the way regardless of price and versatility.

which by the way for anyone before you say how jailbreaking is illegal, its not. apple recently within the past year tried to get the supreme court to rule that jailbreaking is illegal and they did not rule in their favor saying that whoever purchases it can do whatever they want to modify it. yes it is illegal with apple and you will void your warranty if they find out your jailbroken(older models of itouch/iphone can be un-jailbroken and not even be able to tell), but newer itouches/iphones are supposed to get an electronic "watermark" to tell apple electronically if you have done it. i dont think that has gone into effect yet

Hubby keeps telling me whatever I get will be obsolete soon. So I'm thinking he's gonna insist on getting the newest generation. Are all of them good? What one should I definitely NOT get? Which ones have you found to be good to buy if I don't get the latest one?
