Had an issue, any way to ease nitrate poisoning in sw and raise odds of recovery? Will post details later...

Aw sh** :-( I got a 6 line wrasse and a mandarin last weekend. They were in quarantine. I put a large piece or LR with caulerpa on it from my main tank in for the pods, etc. Overnight last night the caulerpa "went sexual". I did a 50% water change this morning and was planning another one tonight, but when I got home the 6 line was in bad shape. Swimming quickly to the surface, then laying on his side. The mandarin seems fine. Nitrates look to be 30-40.
Now I don't know if he was sick from the store and it's just getting bad, or if it was something with the caulerpa, or ???
Gonna clean out the q tank and fill with water from the other tanks, but I don't know if there's anything else I can do :-(

Would Purigen work? It reduces nitrates but I don't know if it's safe in SW.

See my vitamin C info in this forum. Do you have a long established marine system with enough pods to feed that Manderan it's weight daily in pods?

No skimmer in the q tank, will vit c still work? I use the iHerb one in my other tanks per the RC thread...but I read that quite some time ago and wasn't thinking sick fish at the time...
The tank he's going into has been up for over a year now, it's a 90 and has probably 125+ of LR and only 2 sebae clowns and a bta for stock. I've also located a reliable local source of DT's pods if needed...

PP. what PPM of Vc would you say to start with...
JP, I'm not ignoring you, I just hesitate to try something unfamiliar at this point in time. And the only vodka I have on hand is vanilla flavored...

I would not use VC without a skimmer. In this case, WC are your best friend.

I know...I was so friggin happy when he started hoovering them. I have bazillions of pods in my tank, and just added more (DT's pods) but this is nice insurance :-)
