substrate change

hi guys,


Today is substrate changing day for my F8's...

I'm moving away from a rubbish ornamental gravel substrate to a lovely aragonite type sand substrate for the KH and resultant pH benefits

My questions for the more experienced than I :-

will the substrate change subject my F8's to any unnecessary stress and is there a way to control this?

when the gravel comes out I'm guessing that all manor of trapped substances will be released from the gravel into the tank, will a major watrer change be required?

will i need to rinse the sand prior to placing in the tank and is there a preferred method of getting the sand in or is it just a case of get it in and
spread it around??

I did a change from gravel to sand recently & all went smoothly. I did half the tank at a time, by scooping out the old stuff with a fish net & hoovering up the last few bits with the syphon. I rinsed the sand alot before putting it into the tank, but there was still some debris floating around. Run your filters with some fine floss to get rid of any dust particles that remain. The fish were in the tank the whole time & did not seem too worried - they just stayed at the other end.
