can a figure 8 live happily in full marine?

has anyone ever kept a figure 8 in full marine? the puffer in question is currently in water sg 1.006 i was just curious as to wether they will flourish in full salt water as does the GSP!

F8's flourish in low-end brackish, so what you have yours in right now is perfect. I don't think they could survive in marine, or if they could, not very well. I haven't actually heard of anyone trying it, but I wouldn't.

thanks for your reply, i was just curious as ive read on other forums that people do keep them at full marine (sg 1.021 - 1.022) and they report that the f8's are happy enough. obviously if they dont naturally live in the sea then i guess the life span will be limited, but like i said i was just wondering!

Oh, interesting. hmm I wonder if it's about the equivalent of keeping a GSP in freshwater then-- not ideal, but they can get by for a while.

One of the local pet stores in my area has F8's in full marine. They seemed inquisitive, alert and happy, the way one might expect them to act. I myself wouldnt try it.

My guess is it shortens their lifespans a bit, though probably not nearly as much as keeping them in fresh. I had to do it for some months, and there were no signs of any distress at all, but we're not talking about years here. If you HAD to for some reason choose fresh or marine, marine. But just buy a GSP if you want a brackish puffer than can go marine, or a ceylon if you like the F8 look, if you have the choice.
