Gonna be making the stand today
Well got the 9 cinder blocks painted, i did them in chocolate brown for now till I get the black. But the shelves will be brown as well until I get the black paint then I'll paint the blocks black and leave the wood brown, I think it'll look nice. Im going to be cutting and painting the 2 x 4's and plywood today and then I'll be working on setting up the stand and getting my 45g tank all moved and settled. Afterwards I'll take some pics to show it off and the fish I have in there. I have so far 2 GSP's Chunky & Nibbler, 2 Tomato Clowns Marlin and Coral
, and a very adorable Pixie Hawkfish also 5 blue legged hermit crabs. My puffers don't mind these other fish and they don't fin nip at all! And they also aren't really interested in the hermits, they've never been interested in snails either so thats a good thing for my cleaning crew. Some time next week I'll be getting more LR to, yay! Hopefully everythinkg goes good today

Well it's all done! The tank stand has been made, the cinder block stand. And it looks great, have to do a few touch ups then I'll take some pics. The fishy's took the move from our bedroom to the kitchen very well and it looks really good!! And I think the fish like it better here to, more people to see

Stand sound like it is cool, yes pictures please. Not to get off topic but that tank sounds a bit over stocked and when you said so far sounds like your getting more.MeggyPuff25 wrote:. Re: Gonna be making the stand today
I don't think I'll be adding anymore fish, the "so far" part was for the hermits
I will be getting a protein skimmer shortly here to. Just low on funds atm, my hubby is a seasonal worker so with the rain he hasn't been working much. But I do water tests every few days and all is good. They are all happy and get along great no fin nipping or fighting. But I will post pics soon, gonna go take the pictures in a few secs here, lol.

Ok so my pics are to biug, but here is the link. The puffer with the bigger spots in Chunky and the other with the smaller spots is Nibbler. The stand was made with 9 cinder blocks, plywood and 2x4's it barelys moves at all even when bumped. In some photos my water looks funny but its because of the sun coming up.
I hope this link works:

Re: Gonna be making the stand today
It was really fun making, cutting the wood was easy, my hubby did that for me and I painted, lol. I might add some black to the cinder blocks maybe, dunno yet. When we had the stand all set up and ready for the tank that was the funny part. We had alot of buckets and rubber maids full of tank water and the live rock, then we had the fish in a dark container with a bubbler. With all the water we took out the tank was still heavy, my work-out for like the whole week LOL. All the fish are doing great now, although I think Chunky likes it to much, he see's me more and comes to the top and it's like "Ohhhhhh your gonna feed me! You know you wanna feed me!" He eats like a wee piggy. I really enjoy the tank out here now, we can watch them more and my kids 5 yrs old and 1 1/2 yrs old can enjoy it too. Our next step is to get a really good light for the top and some new glass for the other lid, we had an incident where some of the lid broke O.o It's slow going but we can't wait till its all done. Might be getting about 5-10lbs more of live rock at the end of the month. We'll see what happens.

Re: Gonna be making the stand today
Well, it's always great when you can really enjoy your tanks. I love that mine is in the kitchen, for when I'm in the kitchen. However, a majority of my time is spent in the living room or bedroom (bedroom for homework, at my desk, and living room the rest of the time.) Hoping this house hunting thing pans out for us, then I can work on setting things up in my most 'lived in' spaces, rather than where they 'fit' for now...
I think your stand looks great already - I like how the cinder blocks look stacked all together, and have the design. It's really cool!

Re: Gonna be making the stand today
With it in the kitchen I can still see it from our living room
We have an open bar like space through our wall that is under the cabinets in the kitchen so I can sit at my computer and look into the kitchen and sneak a peek. Also when we eat at the table we can watch em to. We were going to get cinder blocks that were finished on all sides but the guy we got these from didn't have 9 of them so I went with these instead. In my living room I also have a 55g freshwater tank with cichlids. We are thinking of maybe next year sometime to make a cinder stand for that tank lol. It's nice to have one freshwater tank and one saltwater. I've always water a salt water tank, but I was always told how hard it was and so far it's not bad, it's actually fun and the fish i have are some beautiful and they have neat personalities

Re: Gonna be making the stand today
ohhh sweet!!
I just got standard 8" cinder block. Maybe I should be looking into the decorative stiff. That looks REALLY nice! I am using this idea also for my snail factory. Instead of paint, I was going to use that fake roller-brush granite.

Re: Gonna be making the stand today
Also I thought I'd mention that at the bottom of the 3 cinders at the bottom of the stand we cut out cardboard to protect the tiles on the floor. I really can't stop looking at it, lol, my DIY projects don't always go right so it's real cool for this one to turn out perfect and nice. I am now addicted to my salt water tank
The live rock looks so cool and we can't wait to get more. I have also gotten my hubby into my addiction, lol. I can't wait to have ppl over to show off my beautiful tank and it's neat fishy's!
