Identifying my Puffer

Hi all,
I just got this puffer a day ago. It was sold to me as a Figure8 but I’m so not sure. Could someone please identify it? I thought it may be a Ceylon looking at the PufferPedia.



This my first puffer so I want to do it right.

That would be a ceylon. Read this ug.php/v/PufferPedia/Brackish/T_Fluviatilis/
Quite a bit different than an F8. Will get more than twice the size and need marine conditions as an adult. You were correct in thinking so.

Thanks, JoseDepacos. I thought she was a Ceylon but then I found out they are rare for the USA and wasn't sure anymore.

How old do you think she is? The pet store just said that had her for a while which isn't much to go on.
Also, will a 40 gallon tank be enough for her lifetime or does she need something larger? I just keeping her solo and I would rather get the maximum tank she'll need now or as close to it as I can instead of up-sizing a lot.
And how do I got about increasing the brackish levels over time (she is on the low-end right now for a Figure8)? Like adding .005 to my salt level weekly? What's the trick?

40 gallon should be perfect if she is solo. As far as raising salinity, .002 per week, no more or you'll risk killing beneficial bacteria and stressing the puffer.

Very nice, ceylons are one of my favorite species, so dang pretty.

40 gallons will do for its lifetime, if its the only fish in there. Gets a little bigger than a GSP, but otherwise, same care.

nice pickup! the 40 will be fine, like mentioned, as long as its the only fish you plan on keeping in there. i would treat for IP's, seems awfully skinny. you will be very happy with this fish if they are as similar to GSP's like people say! especially as it gets bigger

Thanks so much for everyone help! I was in a bit over my head. I researched a Figure8 before purchasing.
I will be getting a 40 gallon this weekend. I think I'm in love. She's so fun to watch. She also seems to like watching my other tanks (or at least it seems like it).

Get a 55g, if you can afford it & have the room.

Would Droncit be the thing to try for IPs? I'm overwhelmed by all the medications names. If it helps any, she is not a picky eater. She'll try anything.

I favor Kusari Wormer Plus. Treats a broad range of things with a single medicine, rather than a cocktail of them, and is the hardest IP med to overdose(nearly impossible). If you want a tank that really stands out, I love 45's - Two feet tall with a 3 foot by 13" footprint. A used 55 is very cheap to find even with a stand though, and is bigger, visibly shorter, but a whole foot longer swimming space.
