Ghost shrimp/guppy/snail breeding tank

I have a puffer in a 10 gallon atm, and I am moving him to a bigger tank soon, and I thought maybe with the 10 gallon I could try breeding ghost shrimp, guppies, and snails all in the same tank. Does anyone think this will work? I can always not breed guppies, if it came to that.

What species of puffer is it? There's no point in breeding guppies if it's not a piscivore.

I've got snails and cherry shrimp breeding in a 10gal and many other people breed them. Cherries would be better than ghost shrimp and you can have them in the same tank as snails.

I have a figure 8, with some dwarfs at the moment, but I am toying with the idea of getting a bigger tank and adding a few puffers [partly because my 10 gallon is gonna be a tad too small once the puffers figure it out].

I'm not sure what puffers I'm adding, but I was thinking of green spotted puffers. Do they safely eat guppies? I'm fine breeding shrimp and snails though. I just thought it would be good to fit a couple non snail eating fish in for fun.

Ah okay, I had assumed more puffer species could eat fish, so no point in guppies.

I'll probably just do shrimp and snails, and maybe for fun a non snail eating fish to make the tank look nicer.

How many DPs do you have? I'd keep the DPs in the 10g & move the F8 to a larger brackish tank. Neither of them need to eat guppies. You should not combine F8s & GSPs, as they have different salinity requirements & GSPs grow 3x as large & much more aggressive.

for food you cant go wrong with getting 4 apple snails, they breed like mad. I have 4 in a 4 gal tank and they lay their eggs about twice a month which keeps me with loads of snails to feed my Topaz with........ Dead easy to look after too

I have three dwarf puffers. If I keep them in that tank I will have to get another 10 gallon to breed snails with, I'm pretty sure the dwarfs will eat them promptly, I heard shrimp can live [probably not breed] with dwarfs in the tank. Do you think that's true?

Hm, I might need to take my figure 8 back then, I had hoped to get some GSPs for the big tank, and had actually wanted to get them more.

Do you use a filter and heater for the 4 gallon? I've never had less than 10gallons. I thought snails would need warmer water, but no idea if they need a filter since they can breath air too.

yes its a full setup, anything less and apple's will die off, you will need to do a good hover of the tank every week as they poo alot too lol

Ah okay. I have a second empty 10 gallon, without a heater, or light, but I do have a filter for it :/

Unfortunately it seems it's usually cheaper to just buy a new 10 gallon that comes with a heater and light.

Snails don't need a light.

I think I will just get two GSP for my big tank, and figure something out for my 10 gallon. I'm not sure how interesting dwarf puffers are on their own, they're pretty small.

I just recently had my one DSP with two LARGE mystery snails, she didn't pay much attection to them until today, I noticed her hovering around the biggest one and taking nips at him, So I had to remove them.

Snails do need light, with no light in the tank you are not going to get much build up of algae for them to eat, you can get food for them but thee more natural the better, they do like apple though lol

I feed my snails the same food as my shrimps (shrimp pellets) this is what happens when I throw one in and they're breeding like crazy...

I have a light over there nearly all day and not 1 patch of algae yet.. they couldn't live off it.
