"food tank"

Post by ahud »

Hi guys,

So I am thinking of what "puffer food" I could raise myself. I have a spare 20gal that I could throw some snails in. what type of snails would you guys do? Would you do live shrimp?

I know its according to the puffer if it eats shrimp or not, but I CAN'T decide on a puffer :( I at least want to get a healthy reproducing population of snails going before I purchase what ever puffer I choose.

Great feeding articles in our Library, including a snail article. ;) (Ok, I'm really feeling like a broken record here...) Have you seen our library yet??? :P

Gosh I'm sorry :(

I know how it is answering repetitive questions. Like all college kids I am about to make an excuse:

"I was doing a lab report and I was banking on a quick answer from one of you educated puffer people :)" (true story)

BUT, I will check out the library like a well behaved fish hobbyist and stop my uninformed questions!

I love this forum, (honestly!)

Pond or ramshorns snails are the best. Don't get trumpet snails as they can cause damage to the puffers mouth because their shell is too hard. This is from what I've been reading.

Snails and cherry shrimp. Pond and nerite snails. Mine do eat ramhorns too crush the crap outta them but im really not trying to keep them around. They are harder but reproduce like crazy. just feed them small ones if you really must.

Nerite's shells are pretty thick.

I agree with PP, my BeeBoo decided to have a go at one of my nerites and he broke it in half, I didn't know that shell was that thick! Not really something I feel comfortable with my puffer doing. So I took the others out of there. :)
