... the subject says it all... any info you have on them will be helpful... i read the puffer pedia... he is in a 55gal with a pleco and a crayfish (declawed). the crayfish is there if he wants to eat it... but it was originally bought for my fahaka... whoever wants it can eat it tho...

ive tried a few foods, he doesnt seem to like any... i know hes new and could be settleing in... the only thing he seems to take a slight interest in is defrosted glassworms... and even that he kinda stares at, looks like hes gonna eat, then backs away. im gonna get some earth worms for him to see how he likes them... im really trying to avoid live fish though cause i dont have a spare breeder tank... and i dont want to feed them straight from the petstore. and on top of that, theres only one LFS that sells any feeders other than goldies... i think they have feeder danios, and the place isnt very close

my palem was sold to me as a red eye... though after looking at the puffer pedia and the opinions of what everyone else says... hes definately a palem.

how quickly do they grow? fast grower or slow grower?

no prob, dont like him anyway lol... too messy... his name is "bones" cause i was curious if my fahaka would like a tank mate... he only lasted about 20 min until all his fins were gone, leaving just the spikey bones... he seems okay so far, but ill remove him when he starts gettin picked on.

In my opinion, Palembangs do not grow that fast, and really there's not alot to tell about them, they aren't very active. Mine lays in the plastic plant that's in with him, or hides behind the bogwood that's in there. Thankfully though, mine has a really good appetite, which I was a bit worried about at first because he would only eat earthworms the first 2 weeks I had him. But now he's eating anything I put in the tank with him, so I see that as a good thing. I thought mine had a tumour, but as I observed him, I realised it was equal on each side, so I just think it's that he's built a little differently than most of my torpedo shaped puffers. I am confident that there is no tumour now.
Anyway, I can't really think of any different information to give other than what I mentioned the other day when you said you had gotten him. I will tell you that I did have some success keeping mine with 2 other suvattii puffers in the same tank. I had the 2 suvattii and had heard that some people were successful keeping them together, so I tried it and actually there weren't any problems. However, when my other Palembang died, I decided that I wasn't going to keep the new Palembang with my little suvattii because even though they would probably get along together, the downside to keeping more than one puffer in a tank is if either one gets sick, then the other one might also get sick and I've had enough of dying and sickness. I haven't had ANY deaths so far in 2010 and I hope to continue this bit of good luck.

aww how cute, hope my little guy comes around... at least at feeding time... its too bad palembangs are so lazy lol... i had no idea of their personalities when i bought him... especially since he was labled as a red eye... BTW, is 24.99 a reasonable price for a palem? he was originally 49.99 but knocked down in price cause no body wanted him poor guy, the little outcast of the LFS. it doesnt really matter if i way over paid... i still like him and its worth it to me, just curious on the "going rate" for a palem

I paid more than that for mine, some years back. Mine ate any small shellfish, or snal, but preferred live ghost shrimp or ramshorm snails. He did relish earthworms, but those were rare treats.
Mine spent much of his early weeks on in one or two bogwood caves provided. Eventually, he spent most of his time on a flange of one of the pieces of bogwood, just outside the cave entry. In position on the wood, he looked as if he had a broken back - symmetrical lumps either side of his spine - which is somewhat characteristic of them. If a shrimp was in the area - he would edge closer, very very slowly, then pounce. Whenever I did anything to the tank, he would come out to "outdoor" rest place - just in case I was adding more ghost shrimp or snails or other food. He was not as inactive as the other lurkers I have kept. One of my favorite puffers.

awesome! thanks RTR yea i noticed my palem likes to sit more on his tail... kinda with his nose pointed in the air like a snob lol... how much do they typically go for? i just want to know for bragging rights that i found a good deal lol
