...... between C. Lorteti & Borneensis? Online pics seem to portray them both with the same photos & I can't seem to find any verbal descriptions of either fish.

There are some minor colouration differences between all of these four redeye species: C lorteti, C bornensis, C salivator, and C irrubesco. I've just been looking at my Aqualog book which gives some differences in the very back so you can make an exact identification.

What kind of information are you looking for ?

How to differentiate positively between Bornensis & Lorteti. Coloration, markings, etc.

Okay, here's some differences that Aqualog lists:

There's a black spot at the base of the anal fin on C lorteti, but not C borneensis. The anal fin is reddish on C lorteti, and it's clear with black edging on C borneensis. The dorsal fin is reddish on C lorteti, and it's orange on C borneensis. The caudal fin on C lorteti: proximal half grey, distal half black with a white edge. On C borneensis: proximal two thirds grey, distal third black with a white edge.

Keep in mind that these are the differences as given by Aqualog, a book that I trust and value very much when it comes to Puffer information. I have a male Borneensis at present, but I no longer have any lorteti (I had a male and 3 females a few months ago), so I can't do a direct comparison. The photos that are provided in the Aqualog of the Borneensis aren't very good, and there's only 3 photos, compared with several different photos of C lorteti.
