What Temperature Do You Keep Your Puffer Tank?
I know I touched on this before, but still never got any definitive answers. I'm curious what temperatures everyone keeps their puffer tanks set at. The reason I ask is that I've read two very different opinions on temperature. One article I read said that your puffer will be more active if you keep the temperature set towards the lower end. Another article said that because puffers are tropical, the temperature should be set towards the higher end. I think most recommendations for puffers say between 74F and 80F, but that's 6 degrees of difference, and 6 degrees can make alot of difference too.
I notice that some of the shops tend to keep their water near the 74F mark .... but that seems a bit cool to me.
So tell me puffer lovers, what temperature do you have your thermometer set at?

Ditto PP, but largely because I can't get them any cooler - too many filters and pumps. For a lot of puffers I would not mind 2-3 degrees F cooler.

I have no heaters in the tanks in my fishroom. The de-humidifier in there puts out enough heat to make the room quite tropical, compared to the rest of the house!

Re: What Temperature Do You Keep Your Puffer Tank?
So it would be your belief that the puffers are better off with a warmer temperature then? I've been keeping mine about 75-76F ... but I may up it a bit if the general consensus is that they do better in warmer temps.
Because of all the tanks we have in our house, I rarely have to put the heat on downstairs, however, we keep the door to the upstairs closed so the dogs can't get up there, and it's like the frozen tundra up there!

Re: What Temperature Do You Keep Your Puffer Tank?
I don't have too much equipment in my 60 gallon saltwater tank (two GSPs), so my temperature always sits safely around 78. It barely fluctuates, but my heater is pretty good. My fish seem okay with that temperature.

Re: What Temperature Do You Keep Your Puffer Tank?
I like 80 for all of my tanks. Right now they're between 70 and 90... Long story. 80 seems to do very nicely, though.
"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

Re: What Temperature Do You Keep Your Puffer Tank?
I wouldn't say that 80 is better over 76, to be honest. I imagine that with life in general there are temperature fluctuations - some days cooler, some days a little warmer. I keep my tank 76 - 80. I'm happy with any range within those numbers. Usually it sits at 78. But if I were you I wouldn't freak out over 76!

Re: What Temperature Do You Keep Your Puffer Tank?
Seems to me that most of you are keeping your puffers at temperatures higher than I've been keeping mine, so maybe I will turn mine up a little and see how that goes. For whatever reason, all of my tanks seem to be set at different temperatures, could be the heaters, as I think some of them are better at keeping a certain temp and others just seem to struggle.
I recently bought a Jager for my big Cube tank, thinking it would be good, but I've had to put another heater in there with it because it just can't seem to do the job, whereas the heater I had before in there was fine at keeping the temp.
I appreciate everyone's input, this is exactly what I wanted out of this thread, thank you.
