firstly I wanted to say hey and I look forward to building a successful DP species tank.

I currently have a 20 gallon tank which has been established for 5 months. It started off with tiger barbs which promptly got moved to a bigger tank and has been housing 4 bettas since then (divided tank of course) it already has 2 anubias, 2 long bunches of reeds and 2 bunches of water sprite and some caves in the tank alongside the filter and heater so I am hoping this is enough.

I have also been feeding a small empty divider in the tank to cause an explosion of snails ready for the puffers (only 1 flake a day). I will be moving the bettas into a bettas barracks as soon as it is cycled but on the same day I get the puffers to ensure the tank stays cycled.

I already do 50% water changes in the tank weekly so keeping up that maintenance isnt a problem.

Is there anything I have missed out? and how many puffers would you recommend for this size tank and what other species apart from the dps? its about the fish being happy more than what I want :). I look forward to your replies.

If this all goes well my bf wants to consider fugu puffers but thats in the future!

Welcome to the forum!

You can house 4 DPs in a 20 gallon. One male and three females would be best.

Thats what I figured, the only problem is sexing them when they are juvies, do you have any tips? I know the females are supposed to be rounder.

Welcome Diggly it sounds like you are ready for some DP's!

I usuaully prefer experience over reading an article but I do not have DP's so you can read up on them in the puffer library, under the Learn tab above, or this website is great it is all based on DP's so I hope this link helps!!
