I'm going to get this show back on the road and make things RIGHT.

I want to get rid of my guppies all together and purchase 2 GSP's and 1 F8.

When i DO finally have everything i'm going to need to keep a puffer happy, is there a recommended place that I can go to purchase these highly intriguing creatures? Or must I settle for the local fish store?

The LFS is the right place to make the purchase, just not at WalMart! I'm sure someone on the board can recommend a good LFS in your area.

GSPs and F8s require different conditions as they mature.

Considering your previous probs, ever thought of staying freshwater? Like with dwarfs or SAP's?

Ok, I'd start with a single f8 in a 20 (standard) in FW then use a drip system acclimation, its pretty easy.

Can i be directed to a detailed explanation & setup of the drip system. It sounds very interesting and efficient.

oh yeah, lisalisa, this is only a first attempt. i want to get it right. I don't want to consider myself stuck with freshwater.

Get a smaller tank above the main tank (or hang a bucket) and start a siphon of high SG water into the tank with airline hosing with knots in to make it a slow drip. dont raise it more then .002 a week so the bacteria don't die.

Preobably not necessary, as most F8 are sold in FW.

True, but it's still a great way to acclimate the new fish to the established tank water. I drip acclimate all new arrivals.

The fact of having a puffer is a great be it fresh, brackish or marine. All puffs have awsome personalitites, its just now for you to decide how far your willing to go!

What's the advantage of drip acclimation vs. raising the SG .001ish each week for puffers bought from stores that keep the BW species in FW, too?

Just curious. I just upped the SG .001 for 4-5 weeks and that seemed to work well...and seems easier than drip acclimation.

I do drip acclimate fish from water substantially different from my own - for whatever reason - along with 'sensitive' fish, or ones I do not know well. But I change specific gravity by small increments at water change intervals, just as Jayhawk posted.

BTW, I use plastic valves in airline tubing rather than knots. Adjustment is sooo much easier.
