I guess its worth just letting him learn that he's gotta get through the shell to get to the meat, they are pretty quick learners, my mbu looked abit puzzled when i started on snails, he used to just nudge them with his nose and didnt really know what to do with them, and just one day he was a savage, chewing the liviong daylights out of anything with a shell, something must have just clicked.
With bloodworms, I have no idea, Puffdaddy has always loved bloodworms frozen or thawed from day one, abit weird
Any the black bits again have no idea, I dont change PD's tank around but I do touch him and put my hands in alot to get him used to the fact that my hands are to help NOT FOOD, I heard of an MBU bitting his owners finger. ouch!
Hope that little speech helps in some way

i agree with you i mean i guess i could crush it half way then let him work at it your right he needs to learn. I dont really stick my hands in the tank that much he doesnt like it and i dont like how the salt water makes my skin feel. Hes eating blood worms now but hes still unsure of snails maybe ill try tommrrow with the snails but i dont think its going to help. WISH ME LUCK!

I have found I can usually bug one of the people at Petsmart to give me some of the little black "pest" snails out of their plant tank. If yours doesn't have a plant tank, they probably have plenty of snails in the fish tanks as well. Sometimes they will even let me get them myself. I have never been charged for them.
If you are crushing them with your hand there is no need for the puffer to bite through the shell. Sounds like a smart puffer to me, lol.
