"Ridges" on male DP

My male DP occasionally does this weird thing. It's hard to describe... It's like he makes his skin into ridges along his back and belly stripe. It makes him look taller and fatter, but when you look at him from the front, you can see that it's a ridge. Has anyone else seen it? What does it mean?

Mine has never done that. He never has those lines around his eyes either. What variation is that?

Male dwarves do the keel and comb thing to make themselves look more impressive to the ladies. Sort of a show off, look at me, not him, type of thing.

I don't think its a sign of an imitator species.

i've seen my male do it before. i thought he had puffed up at first. if they do it does it mean they want to mate? or do they just do it once they hit maturity because they can?

They do it to show off for females, to ward off percieved threats and to display for other males.

It's even funnier in the slightly larger C. Irrubesco
