I have just paid a deposit on a 128 litre marine tank.
I have no experience of keeping fish at all (apart from fantails).
I wanted a porcupine puffer but am not prepared to put the little guy in a tank so small.... I was wondering what puffer would be ok in a tank this size. I want one with a lot of personality.
Is this tank too small for a dogface puffer?
Have found great advice on feeding etc from the site so far..
Thank you for any help you can give.

Only marine puffer you could keep in there would be a sharp-nosed toby & no tank mates. Please do lots of research on keeping a SW tank, it's totally different than FW.

- My Puffers: 1 GSP (Microfiche) RIP, 1 Monotrete Turgidus (Leon) in a 30gal. 1 Monotrete suvattii in a 40 gal FW. 120 gallon BW with 3 juvenile Dragon Gobies (so cool). 55 gal with a 2" GSP named Hank. 180 gallon being set up for a Fahaka in the next few months!

IMHO I would stick with FW or BW in that size tank. Most marine puffers get to be a pretty hefty size except, like PP said, sharp nose toby. Research some of the FW and BW species in the Pufferpedia sand get some ideas.

IMO FO (fish only) marine aquariums aren't all that interesting with only one fish. I would go with a BW. Maybe a figure eight and some other fish.

Im torn now between the Valentini, the GSP and the figure of eight.... though I would prefer several compatable fish in a tank as opposed to just one.
Once my tank arrives I will discuss these in detail with my local fish supplier... he installs and sets up tanks free of charge plus a further 3 home visits free of charge.

Valentinis are great beginner SW puffers. I had one as my first puffer and first SW fish. He was the only fish in the tank and he was enough to keep my amused. I stocked it with polyps and macro-algae (most arent reef safe). Figure eights were my second choice and i would honestly would have gone with them first if they had been in stock.
I would go with the figure eight first. BW is much easier to take care of then SW.

Ooo yes I love LuLu, my valentini, too. She's in my 20 gallon reef tank for now, shared with a little yellow watchman. She doesn't bother the corals, but she's killed all my red-legged hermits and emerald crabs, and she's working on my turbo snail...can't really be too mad at her, because she's a puffer - and that's what puffers do.
