I know Coral sand has buffering qualities for the salt water but would silica sand with shells be a good alternative? Thank you

Shells have buffering qualities, too. Pool filter sand is best for FW.

hmmm... it would be low brackish to start with rising salinity. Coral I know is recommended best though informed not best for plants. thanks lilgreenpuffer

How about using aragonite sand?

i think the black tahitian moon sand looks pretty sick. it doesnt buffer or anything tho i dont think =/
