Palembang Puffer
I am thinking of getting one of these but I wanted more information regarding them before my purchase.
Are their needs similar to that of an arrowhead?
Anyone can share their experience with this puffer?

Re: Palembang Puffer
Hi,
Funny you should mention the Arrowhead because I have my Palembang in my tank with my 2 Arrowhead (suvattii) and they are all getting along just fine. In fact, one of my smaller suvattii have taken the Palembang as a friend, they hang out together often.
My Palembang is just a little more active than the suvattii, but they do share similar behaviours. I don't have to be as precise when I feed the Palembang as I do with my suvattii. I would say give him some place to hang out where he feels safe. I have both PVC tubes and also pieces of bogwood sitting on rocks and the Palembang hangs out under the bogwood.
I hope this helps you some. They are both good puffers.

Yup! Its the first place I go to whenever I need any information on puffers.
I started the thread to get a better understanding from experience keepers. But it seem like its either not many people keep Palembang or no one is posting.

Re: Palembang Puffer
I don't really think they are a popular species. I've not seen many people who own them, and before I got mine I was trying to talk to people who had them so I could know what to expect.
Thankfully mine is really laid back and has taken food easily and there's been no fighting with my suvattii, which was a concern.

I have rarely seen one for sale anywhere. Could be a big reason so few keep them.

Re: Palembang Puffer
hmm... Currently my LFS has 3 of these for sale and they are not looking great. The biggest one had developed a serious case of sore eye and the LFS seem not to be able to do anything for it.

Re: Palembang Puffer
What have they tried? Melafix should help with that. Are they fighting?

Re: Palembang Puffer
I am not sure if they tried melafix with it but I did see them adding different medications into tanks of diseased or injured fishes from time to time. But according to the lady the sore maybe due to poor water condition.
All 3 puffers are housed separately.
