Finally found another Congo...

Got this guy last week, had to have it shipped from Oregon, but it arrived in great shape, and has settled in well. He/she stays buried a lot, which is sweet, and two nights ago ate about 15 feeder guppies before stopping. I had forgotten what their stomach looked like full...he was bumpin bottom, to say the least.
I got it from The Wetspot tropical fish from a guy named Grey. They sent a fahaka first by mistake, then told me to keep the fahaka and sent me the right fish, priority, at their expense. Good folks to deal with...great packing, and very affordable shipping. Lots of oddballs.

Congrats on the Congo! What are you going to do with the fahaka?

Sorry it took so long to get back to you, pufferpunk. A buddy of mine that enjoys giant species took that monster.
This Congo, that I am calling Tater, is an absolute eating machine. It will eat guppies until its belly looks just wrong.
And by the way...last week it hit my mystery snail and apparently wounded it pretty bad. The snail is not dead, as it still holds its operculum shut when you try to open it...but it has not moved in almost a week. He took a half moon shaped chunk from the front edge of the shell, too. He didn't touch it anymore, so I am assuming he was just hungry, and the snail was looking enticing. The snail was very active until this happened.
I have two olive nerites and one clithon coming for help with algae. I am going to be more diligent about keeping feeders available, so hopefully he'll leave the snails alone...we'll see. If I can get some gorgeous snails and some Anubias plants going with him...I'll be happy. He has popped a few leaves off their stems though...but once they get established that won't be a big deal.
I had a beard algae bloom two weeks ago and it sucked!

I highly suggest discontinuing feeding him fish. Get him on dead foods asap. A constant diet fish will cause fatty liver problems. There are suggestions on how to get them on dead foods in an article in our Library, under Feeding.
I would also get that snail out of there, it's probably dead. At least smell it if it's not moving--you'll know.

Yeah...I already pulled the snail...he wasn't dead, but was gonna be.
What types of dead foods did you feed punkster?
