Freezing food in tank water.

Post by seafeatures »

I did a search and couldn't really find the answer to this, everything said to defrost in tank water, but is it possible for me to freeze small shrimp, clams, other bits of sea creatures, etc. IN tank water and then just take the whole cup out of the freezer to defrost before giving it to my figure eight puffer?

I think I should be able to but I wanted to check in case freezing in tank water makes it too salty or something.

I defrost in tap water. I don't think it makes much difference, as long as you freeze things like clams, cockles, shrimp, etc. 1st & then defrost. I add fish vitamins to the water.

I defrost bloodworms by running tap water over them while they're in the cubes. Some gets in usually, but I've noticed to ill effects. That's not a bad idea at all, though. I'd try it. Definitely wouldn't hurt. It wouldn't be any harder than freezing them in tap water, like other people might do.

Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

Im confused why you would want to freeze them that way, maybe im missing something.

Cant you just freeze them how they come then take out what you want for feeding use a designated glass dip it in the tank, drop the food in glass. Leave for 10-15 mins to defrost and then pour it back in the tank.

Or do you just want to seperate everything out prior to freezing?

I rinse & strain everything after thawing. Do not put the "juice" that it comes with into your tank.

I just put everything in ziplocks (no water) and freeze it. Then I take pieces out and defrost in tank water with vitamins. I dump the water after it's defrosted then feed. :D

When I get clams for Pepsi, I just put one in a heavy duty ziplock, and smash the bejiggers out of it with a hammer, reapeat with next clam in it's own baggie...I dump em all in the freezer, without water in the baggies, I don't see the point really. Snap off a piece of clam, drop it in, watch him *gnaw*

Happy puffer with nice trim teeth
