Starting a F8 tank...
I ordered a 30 Long today for a future F8. There was a nice big, evil one at LFS recently. I don't know if he's still there. he's the one that I watched eat all the dwarf puffers a few weeks back! At any rate, I assume this is a good size for one F8. They are light brackish, right? And will it need lots of hiding places, etc? How much salt? With a 30 long, can I have 2 F8s? Will they fight if I have it highly planted/rocked? The lfs there recently don't look so hot. They are in fresh with GSPs of around the same size and the GSPs have white spots on them. What exactly should I look for in a nice, healthy F8, as they don't have white bellies like GSPs?

You could definitely have two F8s. They get along well with others of their own species, from what I've heard. Heavy planting and decorating are still good, since owners report that they love to explore.
Healthy F8? Bright colors, fat, active.
Belly color isn't always a sign of distress in GSPs, actually. It can just be an indication of moodiness, and some people say that their GSPs do it when they can't think of any reason for it at all.

I'm excited. (Though not about more water changes. hehe... I do feel good when I get the tanks changed, though!) I've wanted a "long" tank for a while now and this is a good compromise. I'm gonna skip the sand substrate, though. Its been gunking up my impeller on my crab/shrimp/snail tank. We'll see what their stock is once my new tank is cycled. I hope they take to the bag of frozen assorted fresh seafoods I have. My DP doesn't seem to like it much (even though I fed him a muscle tonight anyway). This will be fun to pick one out based on personality, etc. and then watch them both interact.

Light brackish, yes, you could have two in a 30 long but give them lots of decor.
Figure 8 puffers should have nice white bellies when happy and healthy, like most puffers.
