Red eyed red tail tankmates?

Post by Polkadotpuffer »

Obviously they will have to be fast moving fish but i want something colourful, my 125l tank has 2 red eyed red tail puffers. What can i put with them? Anyone got any suggestions? By the way they seem quite placid so wont rip every fish up if the tank is heavily planted.

I've got Rasboras, corydoras, and gobies in the tank with my Redeyes. I think you could put just about anything in there, as long as it doesn't compete for the food too much and isn't something that will bully the puffers.

It really is true that puffers have different personalities though, alot of people have had success keeping Irrubescos with other fish, but my female Irrubesco took chunks out of my cory's fins :( . Maybe Audrey just has a bad attitude lol!

You are definitely right mysifier, some puffers are very placid and others are highly aggressive. I think it's maybe because my Redeye tank is very heavily planted and I don't think my irrubescos have a chance to focus on any one fish, there's too much going on and too many hiding places for one to get away.

Thanks for the suggestions iv gone for some Leopard Danios which are fast and keep together so the puffers dont bother them, iv also added loads of hiding places which seemed to make them happy :D
