Question about current

Post by bodicea »

Do figure 8 puffers like lots of current. I am using a a whisper external filter rated for a 30-60 gallon on a 25 gallon tank...the stream of water thatc omes in is quite strong and causes quite a current. My question is, do the F8"s like lots of current? Enough to warrent getting a power head? Thanks in advance...

I don't think there's a 'general' rule on preference for current with this species, like - for example - there is with SAPs (where the answer is 'yes'). However, one of my two F8s does enjoy allowing himself to be carried by the current across the tank and then swimming back facing it (until he notices a person in the room in which case the begging-for-food tactics begin). Depends on the puffer, I'd say.

I've heard that they enjoy playing in bubble wand/airstone currents.
"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

I agree with it depends. You don't want so much though that they struggle to swim or they get blown into the glass. :)
