Moving tomorrow!

Post by LilGreenPuffer »

I'm almost finished! Woke up with a nasty cold and sore throat (just before my Advanced Acting final, ugh!). I have one more final tomorrow - French 230, ugh - and then I'm checking out at 8:30 in the evening. Then I'm DONNNNE! I thought about taking a class on adapting graphic novels for the screen, but I'm just burnt out!

Anyway, I'm going to be working a substrate change in. I took everyone and everything out of the tank (the ghost shrimp jumped on me - eek! - but he's fine now) and then got all the gravel into Tupperware, which I put back in the tank, lidless. Then I put all the decorations back in and returned five disgruntled aquatic creatures to their totally renovated home. Tomorrow, when my parents get here, they'll give me some pantyhose (no, I don't own the awful stuff), and I'll just pour in in there, stick the decorations/equipment in a container with tank water, put the fish in a little Critter Keeper, stick it all in the car, and bring them home, where I'll set them up ASAP. I'm leaving the gravel in the panyhose, and I'll get either sand or some natural pebbles this weekend, and then add it, but wait about a month before taking out the pantyhose (which I can then add to the clownfish tank, assuming I have it by then, and start raising the SG). I'll probably get pebbles, because I don't want to wash for eight hours, deal with stirring, or worry about it clogging up the filter. Besides, I think it'll be less messy when I'm moving back out for the fall.

The drive home is only about five minutes, so if I take them out last and bring them in first, I think they'll be okay.

I also have another 10g now, which is currently full of water and Oxy-Clean. I'm running the filter I got in there, too. I rinsed it mostly out, but my sister is making 50% changes every day to get it all out, so when I get home and totally empty it and give it a final rinse, everything should be clean. I'm still looking for another 10g or for a 20g for the clownfish, but now I have a hospital/QT that's not a Tupperware! Yay!

Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

Mine's only five minutes, too. It shouldn't be too bad. I'll put some of their floating plant in there, too, so that they won't see too much of each other - it'll be tight quarters, but I think they'll be less stressed if they don't think that they're squished in with everyone else, and if they're cushioned by the leaves and not banging into the plastic.

:) good luck.

I think it's more stressful for us to move the little guys than it is for them to be moved.

Me, too! And it was only ten dollars, looks like new, and came with lights (needs a new bulb) and a filter (needs cartridges), plus a fake rock that has perfect-sized holes for DPs, and a background (which I probably won't use!).

All in all, I think that they were in their carrier for an hour and a half, and it was *not* a good day. At 6:40, I went to say good-bye to a friend, and saw my RA, who asked when I was checking out. I said I had signed up for 8:30. Well, surprise, surprise! It's a $100 fine if I'm not out by 7! So I had to call my parents to bring the rest of the boxes RIGHT AWAY (Dad almost had a coronary), and we packed and cleaned like crazy, and we didn't get out of there until at least 7:30, but when I asked to talk to the RD, the RAs said, "Oh, sure, you can have another half an hour," so, whatever. But there were all kinds of complications, and every time that I went to put the fish tank back together, my parents made me come back and unpack something "more important."

Grrrr.

But I get my paycheck in a few days, and then I can go get new substrate!
