Nerite Snails?????

I heard that nerite snails will adapt to brackish water and will help with the algae. I also heard that puffers eat them. My puffers are only about an inch or so, so the nerite snail would be way to big for them to eat. Do you guys know if the puffers will mess with the nerite snail or just leave it alone?

some nerites are low brackish and some are high, so choose which species accordingly.

Nerite's have a large 'foot' that extends beyond the shell - my figure 8's pecked at my nerite's foot constantly so I moved it to another tank. My puffer tank is the only tank without an algae eater.

I have 2 nerite snails in my low-end BW tank. It doesn't seem the nerite snails help me with algae, in the very beggining my two F8s did tease the little snail but they were not able to break the snail's shell.

They are happy living there.

For the most part my F8's and GSPs leave my nerites alone because the shells are too hard. But, there was a time when a nerite flipped over and then it was history. Nerites can't seem to turn themselves over like other snails.

Nerites are sort of like MTS snails.. they have extrememly hard shells that a puffer could potentially break a tooth on. But yes, they do well in brackish. As was said, though, if a puffer can get a chance to bite their soft bodies, they are done for...
