Hi,
I am very curious about something. Has anyone ever seen a GSP bigger than a couple of inches long? I read that they can be 6-6.5 inches, and yet I've never seen one that big in all my life! Is it that they don't live long enough to reach that size or maybe just not in captivity?
I would love to hear from anyone that has a GSP bigger than 3-inches long. I've never even seen any photos of them at that size.
I think it would be awesome to see one at it's full mature size.
Ah, so at least I'm not the only person who's curious about this, good.
It's just that I've never seen a big one anywhere and was beginning to wonder if it was a myth or not.
That YouTube video does look like a big GSP, but the poor thing doesn't look like it's in very good condition, did anyone else think that about it?
I'd love for mine to get that big, but I guess I will have to be patient and wait it out.
yeah I did think that the tank was too small, there are hardly any decorations and in a couple of the clips he has a grey/black belly..but he has a wonderful personality! I did wonder what they looked like bigger as mainly only saw younger pics. On the forums here and the link above in edmlfc1's post, average of 2 years for fullish growth.
I have a few puffers that still need to grow. I have 3 suvattii that are just 3-4 inches long, they need to grow a bit more. I have 2 Congo puffers (male & female) that are about 3-inches long and they will grow to about 5-inches. I've got a Baileyi that's about 5-inches long, he will grow a bit more too. And of course, I have my GSP's. I look forward to them all going through their growing stages. I get great satisfaction out of all my puffers, and I spend alot of time peering into their tanks watching them.
Can't think of any better fish to have!
I have a client who's GSP is in full marine and about 6-7 inches long and almost just as round. They do almost get to be the size of a nerf football (have seen it with my own eyes) .
I've been debating lately going and picking up my 60 gallon cube that is sitting in a friend's basement and setting it up. My landlord ok'd three fish tanks, and since I tore down a 20L, that means I can set another tank up, right?
How long do you think it would take a single GSP to get to full size in a 60g, hehehe...

I can't wait for Elevator to get to full size. He is starting to really grow now in his big tank....and is starting to display signs of what I call "A Big Puffer"....where you start to see more skin around the base of his dorsal and anal fin, and slower fin movement. I am so excited, I think he has grown 1/4" in the last month!
