Dwarf puffer question

Post by Irisis »

Okay, this might not be as informative as I'd like but bear with me... :?

As some of you are aware, I am moving to Belgium in a matter of weeks now. Ready and waiting for me at the other end are my new DPs, currently being looked after by my bf, who has never looked after fishes before, but doing his very best under my guidance! :D

He is a little concerned that the puffers look unwell, as their colours have changed slightly since we got them. I've seen them on webcam and seen pics of them, and to me they look really healthy (round, eating well, active, etc), but I thought I'd ask the guidance of those who have had DPs before!

Here's a couple of pics:

He's concerned the one above is too dark (looks normal to me)?

These strange shiny blue spots appeared a couple of days ago, but they appear to be part of the markings as they are not raised at all. Its definately not whitespot as they are actually shiny blue (pics aren't great I know, taken on a phone :? )

What do you guys think? Unfortunately I don't have the exact water perameters, just those from a test stick (I am doing this remotely from the UK! ) Nitrites, ammonia are 0, nitrites about 20-25, pH around 7. Water changes every few days of about 50%.

Do I need to worry?

I am afraid I do not have the answers but am sure someone will save the day for you soon..from what I have read the males can get those sort of markings but thought it was more as wrinkles near the eyes. Fish seem to all mark individually, so fingers crossed, they are ok.

Is it the Nitrates or nitrites that are 20-25?

I think your DPs look just fine. One of my DPs has spotted blueish markings also and it is totally normal, but what is that red mark on him?

Also I might want to get my Nitrates down, at least under 20 for puffers. What size tank are they in?
