Golden/Avacado puffer query

Post by seventy »

Hello everyone, I've been raising puffers for about a year now and I love the little guys. I have a F8[Squishey], GSP[Leonards], and an Avacado Puffer[Swimmy] all living in the same 55g brackish tank. The reason I'm posting in the freshwater forums is that I've been getting alot of mixed information about what kind of tank the Avacado is supposed to be in. I was wanting to get a 4th puffer and go full saltwater in the tank, but I am unsure if that will be harmful to the Avacado and maybe I should move him to another tank. He is VERY very very aggressive(they are all well fed, but the F8 and GSP get their fins nipped on alot), so I don't want to risk adding a 4th puffer to the tank and end up losing one of them if I don't have to. Maybe having two tanks with one freshwater and one saltwater would be a better option for me.

I was hoping someone here could enlighten me on Avacado Puffer care because I haven't been able to find much information on these guys.
(Maybe I haven't been looking in the right places.)

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. :)

Couold you help us out by going to our Pufferpedia & getting the scientific name of your fish, so we can be sure of the ID?

It's under the Learn tab at the top of the page. :)

Sorry about that, Auriglobus modestus would be the one. :)

**edit**
I guess the part that confuses me is that you guys have it as freshwater, but it was sold to me as a BW fish. :(

It is a FW fish & will eventually do severe damage to your others & most any tankmate.

Thank you so much, I'm glad I double checked this because I was going off of what the guy at the specialty store had told me, he had said it was a Brackish to SW fish. Ill be sure to transfer him over to his own tank as soon as possible. :)

But the F8 and GSP should have no problem in the SW tank, correct?

GSP, definately. F8 requires low-end BW, SG of 1.005. Be sure to read the articles on these species in our Library, under the Learn tab above.

Hi there!
"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."
