mbu puffer question...

i am looking for a mbu puffer lately and i found 2 in my LFS..
however...one of them looks pretty healthy, and eatting pretty well and pretty active.
but there is a semi-transparent poop or something hanging from his butt. its like a line..not like poop
so i am thinking if this one got internal worm or something...and his pattern is not very colorful.. its not like some of the pretty ones that have pretty yellow pattern...his is like very gray color..so i dont know what is wrong...but other than these his looks pretty good...and not skinny..
and the other one from another LFS is pretty skinny, and kinda of weak. that one along with 8 more are WC from afarica like 2 weeks ago. this one has pretty nice pattern, but just kinda skinny and weak. it is starting to eat frozen shrimp and try to chase other fish in the tank.. i think he must be real hungry. I really like this one better because of the pattern and the personality. I can tell it will be nice once it is backed up.
so now i am not sure which to choose...or should i just wait for later??
but i really really want one now..and the tank is ready..but without a fish...

What size tank are you putting them in?

The 1st sounds like IPs--easily treatable, if he's still eating. I wouldn't even bother with the 2nd one--sounds really sick.

I would also be interested in your future plans for this species. Please read the sticky in this forum about them & the article in our Library, before even considering one.

i find qith mine there poo tends to change colour and texture depending on what they are fed and how much it may not be anything to worry about always when buying new fish i treat for ips though. to be honest buy which one you want just do plenty of homework if you know how to look after a mbu properly it will be in full health in no time atall

Hey madugo

I have a Mbu named Naboo and he's amazing, he's 3inches and I have him in a 67G (found out today my tank holds more than I thought!). He's fine in there for now and the filter is handling the Bioload

If you do get a Mbu you've got to realise that one day he's pretty much going to need his own bedroom in your house!

So it's a big commitment that'll last 15 years!

But that is a rare case that a mbu is doing that well in a 67 gallon. You will have to change to 1000 gallons, or risk stunting them.
