Oh no! Sick fish?! Come here and see if someone can help!

Since this board has been up, we have found there are several questions that routinely get asked in order to help diagnose problems. If you can have that information to begin with in your post, we'll be able to help right away (if we can!) without having to wait for you to post the info we need.

1) Your water parameters - pH, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrates and salinity (if appropriate). This is by far the most important information you can provide! Do not answer this with "Fine" "Perfect" "ok", that tells us nothing. We need hard numbers.

2) Tank size and a list of ALL inhabitants. Include algae eaters, plecos, everything. We need to know what you have and how big the tank is.

3) Feeding, water change schedule and a list of all products you are using or have added to the tank (examples: Cycle, Amquel, salt, etc)

4) What changes you've made in the tank in the last week or so. Sometimes its the little things that make all the difference.

5) How long the aquarium has been set up, and how did you cycle it? If you don't know what cycling is read this: Fishless Cycling Article and familiarize yourself with all the information. Yes. All of it.

We want to help, and providing this information will go a LONG way to getting a diagnosis and hopeful cure that much faster.

While you wait for assistance:
One of the easiest and best ways to help your fish feel better is clean water! If you are already on a regular water change schedule (50% weekly is recommended) a good step to making your fish more comfortable while waiting for diagnosis/suggestions is to do a large water change immediately. Feel free to repeat daily or as often as you can, clean water is always a good thing! Use of Amquel or Prime as a dechlor may help with any ammonia or nitrite issues, and is highly recommended.

Note - if you do not normally do large water changes, doing a sudden, large water change could shock your fish by suddenly changing their established water chemistry. Clean water is still your first goal, so in this case, do several smaller (10%) water changes over the next day or two before starting any large ones.

This is what im dealing with firstly it was one white lump now there are four. over the last 3 weeks ive treated for 2 weeks with melafix which did nothing... although my acaras are looking lovely! and one full treatment for Theronts using protozin which ended today but these lumps are getting worse / spreading.

0 0 15
7.4ph -> always been the same
27c / 75f degrees constant
she is custom to 50% weekly changes also

this problem has only started about 5 weeks ago no other fish are affected buy this noteven the loaches. It doesnt affect cutiepie atall mind you but they are getting worse they look just like burst spots. i got her out a few weeks ago and felt her back and under the big one it was tough like a lump the other three have come up in the last few days. Any advice as i dont want this to scar her...

p.s. we had to grab her attention with Rylynns dummy she wouldnt pose this morning unless she thought i had food for her....... oh also its not waste on the bottom of the tank its flourite black / sand mix

Not sure if this would help but what if you add Aquarium Salt to the tank

Naboo had smaller white spots and they disapeared once I added the salt

Not sure if that was the start of Ick though?!

It wouldn't hurt if you tried the Aquarium Salt though!

I wonder if you mixed up a strong solution of the salt and some warm water and then got her out and wiped the wounds with it so that you take the top layer off and properly get salt into it

i think one of the barbs perhaps has been biting her causing the swores i wiped all 4 gently and underneath its red like a small hole so i just gave her a 30min salt bath now ill just dose with melafix again for 7 days and take it from there. the wounds are not infected atall fingers crossed they dont get worse. looks like cotton wool coming out of them though

If there is "cotton wool", I'd go with Pimafix. It doesn't look like infected spines to you?
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...
