???MBU tank???

I've been looking into building a 2000 gallon Mbu tank. Plywood and 4x4's for the back sides and bottom. Acrylic for the front, a 10'x5'x1.5" sheet. The cheapest I've found so far is about $2500. Has anyone ever priced this stuff? Is this a reasonable price?

This is one place to look that has great acrylic prices. They don't go as big as you want on the website but you should be ab;e to get a quote for what you need.

I'm planning on building a 1200uk gallon tank and i'm going for 1inch thick glass as it's alot cheaper than acrylic

Also my Mbu bites the glass, if it were acrylic there would be scrapes all over the acrylic

I'd much rather have glass, but acrylic won't break. The thought of having 2000 gallons of water flood the house really freaks me out.

LOL yeah I know what you mean

I think you'd have to really hit a 1inch piece of glass pretty hard to break it though, especially since it's got the water pressure behind it supporting it

Have you got the plan sorted for your tank?

There's quite a few people that have built Plywood tanks on Monsterfishkeepers.com

You defenatly need to re-enforce it with fibreglass (you probably know that though)

I can't stop thinking about 9 and 10 year old kids fighting over a yo-yo.
Building the tank is not a problem( I'm a union carpenter, specializing in concrete formwork for flood control structures.)
I'm still planning out the filtration and heating for the whole system(3000-4000 gallon total).
The whole project(if it happens) is still 1-2 years out.
Still need building permits, and the GF's permission.

Sounds like you're sliiitghly more quarlified than I am to build a tank

When you've worked out your filteration and heating for the whole system would you be able to share your findings here please as I may use some of your ideas for my 1200g?

350 gallon fahaka tank
350 gallon ray tank
50 gallon cray tank
20 gallon DPS tank
20 gallon RCS tank
2x 20 gallon snail tanks
300 gallon sump
2- 30 gallon bio towers
4- 5' long hydro systems
4'x2' algea filter
water softener connected to a tankless water heater for 10% daily water changes.
still considering solar panels to suppliment energy costs.
I've only been looking into this for a couple of months, cost analysis is still somewhat sketchy. Doing most of the work myself, including the addition to the house, I think 40 - 50 thousand is possible.

I didn't get what you were doing at first I thought the 3000g was a single tank for the Mbu

So the filteration and heating is linked through every tank?

Kind of like what a lfs does right?

thin kabout resell value of the house...... not many people want a huge huge aquarium thats tricky to shift.
