Mbus mixing :)

Post by flash.dan »

well guys my 17" + 5" mbu were in the same tank last night no issues atall..... bubba is laid back and ignored cutiepie.

Cutiepie was more curious and kept trying to get close and snuggle.... obv bubba had none of it. i know as babies they are not tollerant of each other adults are much more relaxed........ i knew bubba would be fine as hes been with 2 other mbus previously cutie pie is a little more exitable than he ever was but she took it in her stride..... today shell be back in her own tank

You're braver than me.

I once mixed a male/female pair of wild caught, rare cichlids. I'd been warned they were extremely aggressive, but the two had been flirting through their glass for a few days and I was watching from the next room. Watched for 2 hours from another room (while reading a book). They stayed snuggled up and all nice and calm.. I went to the kitchen to get a cup of tea, came back, and the female was slaughtered. And those were fish without teeth.

the 4 mbus ive ever owned have been very socible fish. The two i have now live in big community tanks. I knew 110% bubba would be finehes a gentle giant. never show agression atall. Although he did bite a blue acara once but that was my fault to be honet i fed the acaras at night and mbus have terrible eye sight he could smell food felt a acara brush past him and had it in his mouth. he et it go straight away unharmed as soon as he realised it wasnt food. hes fine though with everything very placid temprament and eats from my hands

now i only feed them in the light where they can actually see whats going on.

cutie pie is getting there but shes a little more aggrsive when feeding but shes friendly enough. Ive had bubba with mbus before but cutie pie is 1/4 the size of him so as i thought she left him alone she was curious and snuggled up over night shes back in her own tank now though

You never know with puffers. I've had puffers live together in harmony for years, and woke up to find one murdered by the other. I wouldn't do it.
