SAP pacing the tank glass? Try: trimming teeth (!)

I trimmed my SAPs teeth this weekend... all went well!

The best part: the one that had the longest teeth is now begging for food again - formerly he would mostly pace the back of the tank up and down over and over.... so now I have two little, fat and happy beggars.... not just one.

(They both still pace the glass of course... just not as much and not as obsessively....)

I wanted to post this observation because I read another contributor who posited that pacing may be linked to the fish needing its teeth trimmed - I'd buy it based on what I've seen... but maybe your milage will vary - let everyone know your results!

I aggree with the teeth trimming but I still had a lot of pacing on the sides of the tank.

So I added a power head that sprays down the main viewing side of the tank. Now they play in the current like its the river they were caught in. The pacing is still there but it is more of a playfull pacing and there also doing the pacing on the main viewing pane instead of the side.

I also put the return flow spout from my Fluval 404 pointed straight down. I think they treat the return from my filter as a water fall its kind of neat to watch all three of them doing somersaults in the current.

My DP's and apistogrammas love the current as well. Now all the fish have to really chase there food around.

I guess my main observation is that the guy with the long teeth has REALLY calmed down now that they are clipped.

Current... Yes - SAPs love to swim eh?

I have an overpowered filter and they love playing in it - I'll move in another current source to make sure they work off the food they've been "chomping".

what did you tranq him with? might have contributed to the calming...
just a thought.

I have noticed that pacing is not just a puffer habit but also common for puffer cousins like triggers and filefish.
