D: really mean F8?

My roommate and I bought a tiny F8 for our 10gallon tank with the intention of buying a 55gallon and setting up a brackish community tank. Since puffers can be pretty unpredictable I decided to try him out with a pair of guppies- just to see how he'd react to the presence of other fish. For the first day things went great and he completely ignored them. This morning when I went to check on them one was dead and he just killed off the other one :/
Should I take this as a sign that he just can't be with other fish? Or do you think he would he be okay in a larger setting with bigger fish? I'm worried he'd pick on the Dragon Gobies and the Bumblebee gobies, and I don't know if I'd want to risk it because brackish fish are hard to come by around here and I'd have to special order all of them which is going to get expensive.
He's a cute little evil fish though.

hard to say.. currently Malbolge has four white cloud mountains, 2 otos, a synodontus and like 100+ tiny little cherry shrimp running loose in his aquarium. the only thing he molests is the cherry shrimp, he eats them whenever he can, and i feed him about a cube worth of blood worms every two days as well. whatever he doesnt eat gets picked squeeky clean by the shrimp, other fish, and the few lucky snails that he hasnt butchered yet.

I have a heavily planted tank and since he eats so well I don't think he will bother the other fish. the white cloud mountains spend 100% of their time near hte top of the water, and the three catfish are no where to be seen 99% of the time.

I have a tank with F8s, mollies & a dragon goby. They ate all the BBGs that were in there (almost a dozen). They eat a lot of the fry & even some of the adults but the dragon has not a nip on him. Tond of decor for the dragon to hind behind & even snakes his way into the leg of one of my mangrove roots. I wonder how much longer he'll fit in there?

It could still work so long as you plant your tank really heavily. Guppies may not have worked because of their colourful flowing tails, which for the puffer was just too hard to resist.

I have two F8s with a black molly all under an inch in a 26g. I just noticed the other day that the black molly (which is smaller than the two F8s), is picking on my puffers. They steer clear of her. My silver molly used to bully my GSP, so much that I took him out.

You could try a molly?

I was thinking of trying a molly. My LFS has in some amazing looking "gold dust" mollies.
We're going to pick up the 55gallon tomorrow- we can't set it up right away since we have no where to put it D: but we bought it for $15 (well- the price of a month of World of Warcraft, lol) from a friend.

If you go with the bigger tank and lots of plants, rocks, etc. you might be ok. Puffers personalities really vary, yours could be a bully. Age/size plays a part in that as well. If the tankmates are at least the size of your puffer they won't be in danger of being killed. But they still might get torn up. My 1 Figure 8 is with 3 Mollies, 2 Florida Flagfish and 2 K. Gobies...in a 30 gallon. He rips up everyone's fins, likes to sneak up behind them and then rip off their fins. He's being relocated to a 26 gallon tank...most likely it'll just be him and another Fig 8. We'll see how he does when the other tankmate can bite back. I'm hoping things will be better. With puffers you never know.
