I want another Puffer!

Post by cuteyiddlepuff »

Hello Puffer fans,
I bought an 18 gallon yesterday with a built in filter and two sets of lights. I want another puffer (I have a Figure eight and a GSP). I'm researching FW puffers and aren't sure what I'm going to get yet. I really want a SAP but I don't think my tank will be long enough for him :(. I did research and the only two that would be compatible are dwarves or a SAP b/c a dwarf only needs five gallons and the SAP can be kept in 15. My bf is getting a pair of dwarves for a 6.5 gallon so I want to get something different. Would it be bad to keep a SAP in this tank? They are hyperactive. The floating object is driftwood.

I'd say no to a SAP too, mainly because they are shoaling fish and enjoy company of other SAP's. An irrubesco or other closely related puffer could work though!

Is the tank too small for two SAPs? If so, I'll get the irrubesco. Thanks for responding :)

yeah if its 15 per sap then you need at least a 25 to safely have 2 but you could keep 3 in a 30 long if you where good with water changes go with a red eyed species most stay about 3 inches and if you where to keep up on the water they would be fine in there

Thanks for the replies,
I've decided I'm going to give this tank to my bf so he can get a F8. He didn't like Puffers at first but now he's in love with mine. He's really excited. I've hit my max for tanks. I'm getting a 36G this w/e to house a trio of SAPs. :D

No I looked there, they have one that's for sale called a "red eye" but the people are morons it is def not a red eye (I know this isn't the irrubesco but a related species). They sell people things all the time by the wrong name and misidentify Puffers. They really are idiots. LOL. I hate that store I'm trying so hard not to go back but it's hard because they stock things Petsmart/Petco doesn't have. I only like one fish store near me and he can't order that many different species due to lack of space he said he can only get me a GSP or F8. The last few fish I got at the other place were sick. They sold a Fahaka to someone with a 25g and give the worst advice. I've gotten in arguements over a misidentified Puffer which they overcharged me $10 for but I kept my mouth shut because I wanted to save the fish. I might just shop for fish at one store for now on even though the selection is small. Sorry for the rant :).
