Finally silence

Post by Nick »

I have finally silenced the irritating sucking noises from my Seaclone 150 skimmer. It's still a piece of junk, even having changed the maxijet pump for an aquaclear 70 powerhead, but at least it steadily produces some small amount of foam now. To silence the thing, and I suppose this should work with any noisy air intake on a skimmer, I simply put the end of the air intake hose into the air vent hole on the collection cup. No noise anymore at all, not a peep, and I can only guess that the circular air movement encourages a bit more foam out into the collection cup. I'd be interested if this quiets any other noisy skimmers, as well, or if anyone thinks it might make the foam move along better, if they try it.

glad you managed to silence the thing, I can't try this on my skimmer as it uses the maxijet1200 power head for direct injection and doesn't use a venturi to create the foam.

I thought a venturi was a pump with a tube injecting air which the impeller then chopped up?

If I could afford an octopus HOB skimmer, I would.
