It's VERY rare they go for it. A GSP at my job loves crisps. They're not very good for him, but can be offered occasionally for variety.
No matter how magnificent your successes or devastating your failures, the worlds' approximately 5 billion impoverished people could not possibly care less.
Re: does any one elses puffer
My SA puffers (had four...gave three away) all have been trained to eat pellets. I feed them NLS pellets and shrimp pellets. The one I kept eats pellets and gets thawed shrimps and such as treats. I usually give him a larger pellets so he takes 2-3 bites before eating one pellet. So far so good. He is FAT! The three I gave away still eats prepared foods and enjoying a much larget tank.

I haven't tried flakes with Shelby yet. My old porc loved flakes, but they aren't a good staple diet so he got them not too often.

Re: does any one elses puffer
I find flakes are really messy and just aren't worth the hassle, to me. All of my puffers love the frozen sea food, and it doesn't really cost very much for me to buy it instead of other foods, so I just go with that.
I'm in the process of breeding Marbled Crayfish, though. Abe has already shown his undying love for invertebrates when I put in the first two.

Re: does any one elses puffer
I have found that my SAP will eat flakes but none of my other puffers will. I have, wrongly or rightly, attributed this to their mellow nature...
My mate (the one that hooked me on puffers) also reports that one of his 3 GSP's love flakes; maybe its down to personal preference on the puffers part?

Oh most definitely. They all love some things over others.

my puffers usually take in the flake and spit it out. Such picky eaters!

Re: does any one elses puffer
Actually I agree with those observations people have made: my SAPs will take flake but my F8s will look at it, and then look at me as if to say "you're kidding, right?". The flake is for tankmates, not for the puffers and with the F8s it works well because the knight gobies and desert gobies will eat the flake on the days when I'm giving my puffers a break from filling their fat faces.
But in my SAP tank it doesn't work so well: the SAPs will eat the spirulina flake I put in for my LDA08 and Nemacheilus masyai...so...there's not much I can do. I very very rarely feed flake to my fish full stop though so it's not an issue. It's maybe once or twice a month. They all get frozen stuff on a regular basis.
But yeh, I wonder if it's that SAPs are just crazycrazy fish and don't really mind anything?

Re: does any one elses puffer
It's amazing the appeties of these puffers eh?
I try not to keep mine too fat (small meels every day) . I have a fahaka and a T. muirus, and both have huge appetites.
My fahaka digests his meal in liike 8 hours, and he's ready to eat. Like wise my Congo. feeder half his size for lunch and he will be ready to eat another late dinner. lol their both only about 2 inches... will probably eat as much food as my 75 pound german shepperd did!
