wanting to add a new puffer
Hey guys, Last week we lost our much loved porcupine puffer Ellen
, We currently have another on order and are going to place that porcupine puffer in our new 125 gallon. We want to get a second puffer for our 45 gallon, any suggestions??

Re: wanting to add a new puffer
Personally, what I am planning on doing with a 40-45g tank in the future will be a planted aquarium with some DP's and SAP's. How about some Valentinis?

Re: wanting to add a new puffer
how big will a Valentini get? Could I eventually add it to the 125 with the porcupine puffer?

Re: wanting to add a new puffer
I think they get up to 4-5 inches....about 25 gals per fish. You might be pushing it with 125 gals, since a porc requires a about that much space himself, I thought it was going to be for the 45 gal alone. But, I am not absolutely positive about that.

Re: wanting to add a new puffer
My fluval 405 is really good it keeps my 55g well circulated and its rated above 100g so it does great for a puffer stocked 55g.
I'm not a marine tank guy yet so i'm not sure of this but if a valantini only need 25g then maybe two valantini puffers in the tank. I'm not sure if a species tank is good for these guys. Pufferpedia doesn't say but I know there are a couple people on here that have them so they should be able to tell you temperment.
I think if you wanted 2 puff in there you would have to stick with the Canthigaster genus. They seem to be the only miny SW puff on pufferpedia.

Re: wanting to add a new puffer
wow, that's tough. Poor puff.. sorry for your loss.
45G ... Tobies... various colours, valentinis, white spots .. both beautiful.
Good luck with the new porc, and i'm sure you'll not feed live fish again, all fresh food ie mussles, cockles, prawns should be frozen first before de-frosting and feeding.

Re: wanting to add a new puffer
our puffer had marine velvet, she was fine then we noticed she was breathing heavily at the bottom of the tank, we were told to lower the salinity and drop the temperature, then her color totally turned white and before we knew it she was gone. We have 1 fish left, our dragon wrasse he has 4 more days to go in qt. He has been fine though showing no symptoms. We are getting a new porcupine puffer, its just sad when you lose one. Your puffers are adorable, good luck with them and your marriage. i am trying to get recommendations on another puffer for a 45 gal that I have, any suggestions?
