Are frogs ok?
i have an arrowhead and I was wondering if a frog would be acceptable food for him. I have tried to train him to frozen food and he just doesn't wanna eat it. So i've been stuck with my Guppies and mollies as feeders. I was thinking that a frog would be a larger specimen for food and he could go a little longer between feedings that way.
just a thought....
just a thought....

Re: Are frogs ok?
Im not sure on this but have a feeling that frogs have a nasty coating on them that makes them taste bad, i hope someone else may be able to either confirm or throw this theory out!

Re: Are frogs ok?
i know my fahaka would eat them but im not sure about the arrowhead. I could imagine them eating them in the wild so why not here? I would like to know for sure though.

Re: Are frogs ok?
I feel that in the wild puffer won't see frog as their food. Probably just an intruder to the puffer's territory, that needs to be chased away or slaughtered.
frogs are also quite fatty. so I guess it won't make a good diet for puffer.
btw, that's just my view of frogs as aquarium fish food. I won't feed them to my puffers.

Re: Are frogs ok?
It was just an idea...I had actually caught a frog in my grage that morning and I put him in a small betta aquarium that I have. I was think on how to QT him and gut load him for my puff when I asked this question. By the time I got back to the aquarium the frog was gone. I have no idea where he went and I still cant find him. I actually think my dog might have ate him if he jumped onto the floor
So I guess I won't both goin out in the back yard for more frogs.

Re: Are frogs ok?
Toads are poisonus (I'n not so sure to puffers though), frogss are not. He may or may not see them as food but I have a feeling he will. I like frogs & kept them as pets for years, so I'm not too keen on feeding them out as food.
I have a feeling you either aren't letting the puffer get hungry enough to accept dead foods or you aren't being patient enough bouncing the food on a thread (I've done it for 1/2 hour sometimes). He will eat dead foods.

Re: Are frogs ok?
A 1/2 hour huh? thats a long time. I was thinking of tieing a string to keep the shrimp in the filter current. That way it would just be bouncing around constantly. He seems to be scared of me. He will only swim around at night and will stay burried during the day. When I get home at night and turn the kitchen light on he imediately burries himself. As soon as the lights go out though he comes out and swims around.

The string in the current is what I wound up doing. Try doing this at night then. Anything to get him used to dead foods--not cute lil froggies!
