I seem to remember reading somewhere that porcs should be kept in tanks with no substrate - the colleague of mine with the new porc has live rock, obviously, but also a live sand substrate and I swear I read porcs shouldn't have bare-bottom tanks (I might've dreamt this).
I've been trawling Google and I just can't find where I read it.....

Re: Bare bottom
Personally, I hate BB. It is so unnatural-looking. You'd need to have a ton of flow across tthe bottom of the tank to pick up the detrious & get it into the water column, so the skimmer can pick it up. Puffers are confused & frightened when they see a fish swimming below them all the time too.
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...

Re: Bare bottom
BB are really annoying, I've never heard of porcs needing a bare bottom tank before. I think you may have dreamt it

Re: Bare bottom
I remember reading an article about saltwater tanks with bb. Personally I don't like it. It dosen't seem natural to me.

Re: Bare bottom
I don't like bare bottom tanks either. A lot of people who run them swear by them, but those are usually the people whose corals have priority over their fish; and regardless, to me it's not simulating an important part of a coral reefs.

You're not going crazy : P
I've read/heard of it before as well--- but I have also heard plenty against it.

Job 12:7-10. But ask the animals, and they will teach you; or birds of the air
and they will tell you; or speak to the earth and it will teach you; or let the fish
of the sea inform you. Which of all these does not know that the hand of the
lord has done this. In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all
mankind.
