Porcupine puffer questions/suggestions

Post by match55 »

Due to the mistake that i had made and almost kill an Porcupine puffer, I am gonna ask some questions and get prepare to get another one in the future.
Right now the tank is still cycling, but I am gonna get it probably in next 2 weeks. (Put it to QT, for at least a month before let it in my main tank.)

Questions are:
1. What kind of food should I get?
2.How do you prepare the food?
3.Is GSP, or other tankmate allow? (clown fish~~~!! )
4.What size you recommend to start with?
5. Is 100 gal gonna be enough for 2 Porc?

Thank you so much

Here is a link to some information on the proc. 120 gl tank or more for just one of them, so you might be albe to get away with a 100 gl but not two in the tank. You should never put two puffers of the same kind in any size tank. I sure others will be along to fill you in a bit more.

1. Read the feeding article. Offer lots of food, try to avoid krill.
I hope you don't get a picky one like mine... It's a pain in the butt to feed her.
2.I believe this is in the feeding article too.
3.Tankmates are allowed depending on the size tank.
4.Best to start as big as possible, so I'd start with a 100.
5. About 100 gallons needed per porc so no. You could keep clowns with a porc in that size tank though.

oh~ i thought the feeding articles are for GSPs, my bad~~
if i get a tiny porc first, then upgrade the tank to 100+ later, will that be ok?

Depends on what size tank ii is.
It's better to start them off in the right size tank, because things might not go as planned, and I know that from experience.

1" plywood + 6 stack of cinder blocks from home depot + oversized tablecloth from target = 1/10th price stand for large tank.
No matter how magnificent your successes or devastating your failures, the worlds' approximately 5 billion impoverished people could not possibly care less.

yup that works! and if you want to go a little nicer you can always look into plants thats just use 2X4s and 4X4's and they still come cheaper and you can make them look really nice!
60g with 2 angels, 1 yoyo loach, Upside down catfish, Clown Loach, 1 leopard Ctenopoma, 12 black skirt tetras and a L201 Pleco

30g GSP tank (soon to be 35 gal Hex)

oh, that's awesome!!!! I don't really need a nice one, just a normal one that can build up a sump.
I am gonna try to do it by myself Oo, hope I can make a good stand, so the tank won't fall.
MY FRIEND LIE TO ME... it's not a 100 gal, is a 90~~~grrrr T-T
can I still have a porc in the 90 gal tank?

Since the minimum recomendation for this firh is 120g, 90 is really pushing it.

T-T sad news... the 90gal that my friend was gonna give it to me wasa cracked....
now my boss is gonna give me a one, but he didn't know the size...hope is 100gal ><

I might need to change my plan~ get a tiny porc in a smaller tank(the one my boss gonna give me), and upgrade when I get more money and when the puffy get bigger~
