I am researching F8's and I am really curious as to HOW MUCH to feed them? I understand what kinds of food (The article in the pufferpedia is awesome) but I am concerned about overfeeding. Do you just put a whole bunch in the tank, watch them eat for a while, then take the rest out? If you put snails or ghost shrimp in the tank will they just eat them all until they are gone? If you buy the little cubes of frozen blood worms, etc. would you only feed them about a fourth of a cube if they were about 1 inch long?
I have just heard that they will overfeed if you let them, so I want to understand this first .
For a small one ...at least mine, he doesn't eat a lot. I have a couple tanks, so I usually thaw a cube or 2 in their water and spoon out a little for each. With the F8, I usually watch him closely and use his belly as a gauge. You don't want it to get real big, but as soon as he takes even one bite it gets a little bigger. Mine's probably about an inch long, maybe a little less, and I don't think he eat's 1/4 frozen cube... maybe 1/8 cube if that. He also eats freeze dried stuff, so that's easier to break into pieces because I can measure easier. I'm not sure a good way to store the frozen stuff he doesn't eat.. after it's thawed that is. After everyone's done feeding mine's usually gone, or if there's a little less it gets thrown out. Mine's a picky eater, but I try to give him as much variety as I can. Hope this helps.
