tempting ideas second thoughts

Post by jimi »

so lately i have been gambling so i i could not have a blood bath by keeping my 2 red eyes separate till i got a slightly bigger tank ( a friends gave me one ) but if i didn't want to feed him to my bronze puffer i had to put him in my well planted multi-hiding spaces 90 gallon community at first when i put him in there my biggest fear was for my black ghost knife and his long fin and then for my rainbow shark who is active and in peoples business on a constant and African butterfly because of his fins and laziness then the next day i was worried because he had disappeared and i couldnt find him ( still have no clue to his hiding space) but its been 2 weeks now and nothing is wrong in the tank no nips no fights no aggression so im thinking maybe he can stay any oppions ?

Puffer temperament is as varying as the number of fish in the sea, so it's quite possible that he can be kept with other fish. Just note that puffers (in general) can have a "snap" moment where they just turn on another fish... and they usually win. It just depends on the fish they're kept with.

For instance, my two Ceylons are kept with a Knight Goby, and there's never any aggression (heck, they sleep in the same cave!), but I tried adding some Balloon mollies before, and they attacked them immediately. I had to remove 4 of the 5 (both alive and dead), but one managed to co-exist with the puffers (plus I couldn't catch him, which didn't help). Then, one day (like 3-4 weeks later), he was missing all of his fins in one instant, and died shortly after.

I've heard of other stories where they had their puffer and another fish in the same tank for over a year, then one day the puffer just mutilates the other fish. Therefore, you can keep him in the 90 gallon at your own risk, heh.

yeah i know but he is behaveing not one nip he dosent even chase the ghost shrimp so i think im just gunna have to keep an eye on the tank and take him out if he gets aggresive ( the only fish that shows aggresion is my bgk that will chase anything that gets in its cave exept for the puffer who was there when he found it and have shared ever sense)

I have heard it go either way.... If it were me i wouldn't do it, unless I planned on getting rid of or thinning out the community tank. Good luck keep us posted.
