feeding GSP hikari food sticks?

Post by cobra1713 »

ok well i ran out of blood worms yesterday and didnt have time to get them until i realized all the stores were closed but i did have some carnivore food sticks left that are made by hikari, i feed my blood parrots with these. i was wondering what you guys think of these for puffers? he didnt take much interest to them this time but would it be worth it to try and get him on them?

just wondering if you think they have enough nutritional value for a staple food with the ocasional treat of bloodworms, shrimp, mussles and everything else.

My puffer won't touch pellets. I feed them to my clownfish, and my GSP always acts like he's going to eat one but spits it out and swims away. A while back I tried feeding him anti-parasite pellets, but he wouldn't touch them. I even tried soaking them in garlic.

Even if yours does eat them, I don't think you'd want to use them as a staple food. But them again, I'm a big advocate of a more natural diet for them. GSPs are all wild caught, I figure the least we can do is feed them their natural choice of food.
Also- you may want to add some sort of plant material to his diet, like dried seaweed.

I have been looking all over for some green foods for my puffers. Where do you get your seaweed? Or what is the name of it so I can ask?

My puffer won't touch pellets. He loves his krill, bloodworms, sometimes mysys shrimp. I'm hoping when he gets bigger he eats a wider variety because if he doesn't like it he just doesn't eat it. Very picky little guy! :)

Those are my F8's favorites.. I thaw the frozen ones and spoon them out of a cup and he eats them off the spoon. It's so cute! He's so spoiled :)

My GSP's love blood worms and mysis shrimp. As well as the occasional snail. I haven't tried any green foods though they have nibbled some new groth leaves on my anubias. I wonder if nori would work?

You can buy dried seaweed at pretty much any local fish store. I think Petsmart and Petco carry it too. About once a week a put a small piece on a clip for my puffer. It's one of his favorite foods. :D

My south american puffer was eating shrimp and krill. It took a like for some NLS. Now the puff eats anything...frozen and pellets.
