Re: compatable with GSPs?
None really.
the only way you might! (and i put emphasis on might cus its rare!) get a tank mate (other than another GSP (in a 55 GAL tank)) is if it was a GSP in a full salt water set up around 55+ gallons with ALOT of live rock for hiding spots and you could try percula clowns or maroon clowns and maybe some other marine fish but im not sure which.

What size is the tank and what's the s.g.? Do you plan on going to full marine?

I have a bumblebee goby in with mine, but he's still pretty small. I'm guessing when he gets bigger I might have to separate them.

Re: compatable with GSPs?
I keep a Knight Goby with my Ceylons (similar temperament to GSPs), but the Goby is pretty aggressive and is an adult (the Ceylons are still only 1.5-2 inches). Some people have had success with Mollies, but my experience definitely didn't go over well. They massacred three of the five mollies I put in.

Re: compatable with GSPs?
I have an Archer that lives with a very aggressive GSP and they do fine, never any nipping. In fact they are nearly inseparable. The Archer follows the GSP everywhere he goes. I expect that has to do more with the Archer not wanting the GSP to take his food more than anything else. But there is no guarantee a puffer will not be aggressive to any type of fish you put in the tank. A good idea is to make sure the other fish is larger than the puffer unless it's another puffer. I would keep an eye on any fish you put in the tank and remove it at first sign of agression.

Your GSP looks a lot like my Shakespeare, how old is he and how big?

Re: compatable with GSPs?
He's a little over 3 inches including tail. He was in bad shape when I first got him from a wal-mart, nipped fins, dark coloration and all. I've had him for a year and he's grown maybe a 1/2 inch.

Re: compatable with GSPs?
Shakespeare has very unusal markings. I have never seen a gsp w/ spots on the belly. I love the dark spots on the tail. My smaller gsp has very light spots on the tail (quickest way for me to tell them apart). My bigger gsp no spots on his tail.Nick wrote:Your GSP looks a lot like my Shakespeare, how old is he and how big?
ludachris0606 it's been a challenge for me to keep 2 baby gsp together in a 55g tank. They have fought. I have to be very careful feeding and I have heavy decor to break up the line of sight. If you decide on a tank mate watch closley how they fair and be prepared to seperate if nessary like grayhavens said. A lot depends on your gsp's personality, tank size and how the tank is set up. Sadly puffers are not much of a community fish.

55g-2 green spotted puffers 1 year old Nov 08!
20g-5 leopard danio,4 whiteskirt tetras, amanos, nerita snails, 2 neon tetras

Re: compatable with GSPs?
He's a bit smaller than Shakespeare, but the detail on his tail and his overall shape are VERY similar. His belly spots are very unusual, he makes them appear and disappear all the time, though his tail always has distinct spotting.

Re: compatable with GSPs?
I really like the archer fish those are the ones that spit to get the food thats outside the tank? I had a green spotted scat with mine and they loved each other the scat would protect the gsp if I stuck my hand in there, or put any other gsps in there, but I know some scats can be aggressive and it is recomended that they are in a 90 gallon.

Re: compatable with GSPs?
at the moment I have 5 BBGs in with Bonzo, he's about 2 - 2.5" and the BBGs are about 3/4 of an inch, he has looked at them a few times ,but they have always fled the scene before he got too close, rarely gives them the time of day now, I guess it's just too much effort for him.
Will hopefully be getting a pair of percs when he reaches marine, will probably go for tank bred instead of true percs, as £60 per pair is a lot to lose if he suddenly sees them as dinner.

Re: compatable with GSPs?
I have 2 GSP's in a 55g and am fortunate that they don't seem aggressive towards each other at all. Flame Hawkfish? I guess that ust be full SW. I might try that someday when my puffers are bigger and in full SW.
