could i have over fed him?

hi all, Being new to this puffer lark im kinda panicing about everything. I fed him tonight and he ate a whole frozen fish(defrosted first) and 2 mussles which i was really pleased about as he has only really had 2 proper feeds in the last week (since i got him) but im a little concerned now as he has setled back down in his corner but seems to be breathing quite fast and heavy, his water perameters are all fine, but when he had the fish (which was nearly as long as him) he kinda ate it whole. Should i be worried?

Sounds like he was just overfed, once the food passes through his system he should be back to normal.
How big is your puffer?

Hi Lisa, I think crazedpuffer has nailed your problem and you should have no further problems as long as the food passes through. Maybe you should not feed him so much in one go next time! But that obviously depends on the Puffer. Don't forget that he will will still be settling in to his new home. Can you describe the Puffer if your not sure what it is?

Thanks, I deffinately wont be feeding him so much in one go again, i wasn't expecting him to eat the fish but aparently it smelt good! He seems Abit happier today still looks a little fat but more comfortable! i am gonna try to add a clearer pic of him but not sure if it will work, my camera doesn't like the light in his tank.

Looks like a healthy Thai Puffer to me.
Don't worry your not the only one out there who is learning about these amazing creatures, I have jsut spent the afternoon dangling a mussel on a string in the tank to try and get mine to adjust to frozen food as he has only been fed live at my LFS.

I brought like a long pair of plant grabbers which i feed puffle with, yesterday he took the frozen fish (Defrosted first) right from the grabber coz i was wiggling it around i gess he thought it was alive and also it stank which has to have helped!

It is recomended that lurker puffers be fed once a week, so maybe it was overfeeding. By limiting feeding they may be more actuve rather than sit still and wait for the food tocome to them. When you do feed him though make him work for it and get him swimming about a bit if poss

Thank you, for your help, i am feeding him alot less often normally about every 3 days. He seems to be hungry after the first day but i guess he is just trying to make me feel bad and feed him again. he is getting more active now after about 2 days an starts to chase my fingers across the glass, which atleast make him move.
