DP site down need help, aggressive tank mate

Post by rockershocker »

ok, so I just got my fem DP a male friend, she doesnt like him much though. ive been meaning to get a tank divider but im waiting for my first paycheck at my new job.

basically what happened is they both just got fed and the fem, who was in the tank way before the male, started chasing the male way worse than ive ever seen before, usually its just 2 or 3 inches then he dashes behind a plant, she wouldn't let up this time, finally she latched onto his belly towards his tail. he puffed up. he seems ok, just really shaken up, no visible marks from the female's bite. Is he going to be ok? have any of you experienced this before? I'm going home today so I'll be able to borrow a few bucks from my mom for a tank divider, do you think that he'll be ok til i get back tomorrow?, I don't have anywhere to put him aside from a 20 gallon brackish with a fig 8 or my snail farm which is actually just my gf's one gallon, if i put him in there he'd overeat himself to death i think.

It doesn't sound like a lot you can do until you get a tank divider in there. Some puffers are just more aggressive than others. It sounds like they should be okay until you split them up, just get a divider as soon as you can.

Get the divider ASAP. Putting him in the sanil tank might be a good idea too. They know when to stop eating so he shouldn't overdo it.

it sounds like a teritory issue, try rearranging the the decorations in the tank so the teritory for the first puffer is not the same and well cause the division of teritory to be redivided. both starting off fresh. plus you can add decorations to offset as well.
