My baby GSP is currently in a 10 gallon Hex, waiting for my 39 gallon to finish cycling. There is so much brown algae in his tank I have to take it all apart and scrub - even the tank bottom-twice a week. He is not a extremely messy eater- takes it from my hand or chases a ghost shrimp down...I can't put a small Algae Eater in with him now, right? Could an AE got into the 39 gallon when ready?

There aren't commonly available algae eaters for brackish water. I know it sucks, but you'll just have to deal with cleaning it by hand. Eventually, it should go away.

The algae eater would just add to the problem. Do more frequent water changes.

I wouldn't bother with an algae eater. Except if you are planning on keeping that a fw tank and the algae eaters will get along with future fish.

They will eventually need to be in different tanks b/c of the salinity requirements of both fish. So, the answer is no in the long run (and no, I'm not talking about the run I did this morning)

I would get nerite snails if you need algae cleaners.

Try keeping the tank light on for less hours.

Is your tank in a window, or does it have access to alot of natural light?

Could be why you're getting excessive algae.

My tank has very low lighting as my ceylon doesn't like it, and i've not had to clean the glass once in 8 months....

It also depends on how long the tank has been set up. When you turn a FW tank into BW (or start a new one), you get an awful lot of algae in the beginning. It can drive you nuts for a while. But it will get better, all though you never totally will get rid of the algae.
