Filtration

I am defiantly going to have to upgrade my filtration from what I have read. I have a 10g with 2 DP's. Right now it has a cheap Whisper 10-20 on it. I was going to go with a Bio-wheel 150 and a sponge filter. Do you guys think thats adequate or over kill?

IMO there is no such thing as over kill when it comes to filtration, I like to try and have a filter that will turn the tank water over 10x an hour. Personally for HOB filters I swear by Aquaclears as there is so much more room inside them for extra bio such as coral and bio-max

Yeah, I think you'll be okay with a Biowheel. I agree that there's no such thing as overkill with filtration, so get whatever you can afford.

You might not need the sponge filter, though. I'd suggest getting two HOB filters (not Whisper though, as I hate those things) so that if one fails, you still have a backup, OR if you need to create a temporary hospital tank of some sort for one of your freshwater fish, you can just take that off the back of one tank and put it on the hospital tank for an instant-cycle tank. Originally I was too cheap to do this, but I now understand it's importance and how useful it can be. It's also good to have two so that you can clean one every couple months without worrying about your tank going through another cycle.
